More from the Crain's profile
of Atlantic Yards proposer Bruce Ratner:
...Initially, the project called for four office towers, but by early this
year, only one was on the drawing boards. Asked when it will go up, Mr. Ratner
responds with a question: “Can you tell me when we are going
to need a new office tower?”
Putting aside Ratner's snide answer, this is precisely what critics, opponents
and observers have been saying for years: there is no demand for the office tower
Ratner has proposed, and that has only become more definitive over the
years.
Also, according to Bruce Ratner's team, we were going to need a new office tower
by 2016 when the whole project was supposed to be completed.
